December 16, 2021. This month we discussed journalist María Hinojosa’s memoir. Once I Was You. It was an in-depth discussion of not only her biography but the experience of immigration in the United States.

I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Project Pulso on November 17, 2021. Thank you to all who joined us in the virtual classroom.
In this course, we discussed the experience of Company E, the only all Mexican-American Unit to serve during World War II; the discrimination faced by Puerto Rican soldiers; Tejano veteran Felix Longoria; and the Mexican-American Generation.

Following the Manito Trail
I am privileged to work on the Following the Manito Trail Project with Dr. Vanessa Fonseca-Chávez, Dr. Trisha Martínez, Professor Levi Romero and Ph.D. Candidate Jesús Villa. This project captured my heart because it speaks to the experience of my father’s family – nuevomexicana/os who migrated out of New Mexico in the mid-1900s in order to make a living. In many cases, these families never got to return home to New Mexico but they traveled with their home on their backs, in their cars and in their language. Check out the blog to read our stories!

August 18, 2021. I facilitated a talk with author Elizabeth Gonzalez-James. We discussed her novel Mona at Sea which details the experience of the 2008 recession as experienced by a young, Chicana millenial. Children’s Bilingual Book Festival at the National Hispanic Cultural Center
From April 15-April 18, 2021, the National Hispanic Cultural Center hosted the 2nd Annual Children’s Bilingual Book Festival. It was such a privilege to participate in this event and I was introduced to so many amazing writers and their books.
